Race of The 17

The Race Of The 17 is a project developed in cooperation between the Rotaract Club of Aley and Rotaract Club Sahel Metn D.2452 (Lebanon). The aim of this project is to arouse awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through different challenges that the participating clubs will have to take up.

What is SDG?

They  are a group of 17  global goals designed to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all The SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030. They are included in a UN Resolution called the 2030 Agenda or what is colloquially known as Agenda 2030.

What is their aims?

SDG are a call for action by all countries : developed,under-developed and developping ones,  to promote prosperity while protecting the earth. They have realised  that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. More important than ever, the goals tackle COVID-19 and provide ways of recovery.

Throughout Time, many civil society organisations and international clubs have identified with such goals and they even adopted them in their portfolios. The Rotaract Mediterranean is one of them.

The Rotaract Mediterranean MDIO is a partner in this project because its objective is in line with the Rotaract Mediterranean initiatives (MedLove, MedNature and MedCulture) which are directly related to the SDGs.

For instance, the fourth goal of the SDG which is about quality education goes hand in hand with the  initiative Med culture. That’s to say, the MDIO can achieve the goal of enhancing the quality of education and still serving its initiative at the same time.

The projet How to implement the ideas ?

The Race of the 17 consists of two distinct but complementary parts:
